The FUOYESUSC 9th Assembly

ADDRESS BY THE SENATE PRESIDENT ON THE ONGOING CONSTITUTION REVIEW

Dear FUOYEites,

The ongoing constitution review represents a defining moment in the democratic journey of our union. A constitution is not merely a document; it is the supreme legal framework that governs our collective conduct, safeguards our rights, and outlines the structure, powers, and responsibilities of leadership within our institution.

As an Assembly, we fully recognize that constitutional reform must be participatory, transparent, and reflective of the will of the people it governs. This review process is therefore not an isolated legislative exercise but a collective responsibility. Every member of the Union has a voice, and every perspective is valuable in shaping a more responsive, accountable, and inclusive student government.

We are committed to ensuring that this process strengthens democratic principles, promotes fairness, and enhances institutional stability. Your ideas, recommendations, and constructive criticisms are essential as we undertake this important task of redefining and strengthening the foundation of our union.

I urge all FUOYEites to engage in this process actively. Let us seize this opportunity to build a more democratic, inclusive, and progressive FUOYE together.

Thank you.

Dist. Sen. Oshunbunmi Tobiloba Elijah

Senator Rep. Agriculture Constituency,
Senate President, FUOYESUSC, 9th Assembly.

THE CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESS: THE 9TH ASSEMBLY CONSTITUTION REVIEW

In the world of Environmental Design, we are taught a fundamental truth: a structure is only as resilient as its foundation. If the master plan is flawed, the building cannot stand the test of time.

As we gather under the mandate of the 9th Assembly, I stand before you not just as a student of design, but as The New Dawn Catalyst. My mission is to ensure that this review serves as the chemical spark for a more transparent era. We are here to re-engineer our master plan, to transition from an outdated framework into a modern, functional, and inclusive Student Union.

For the Federal University Oye-Ekiti Students’ Union, that foundation is our Constitution.

The FUOYESUG Constitution is not just a document; it is the general body of law governing our union and the living representation of our collective aspirations. It is the charter that coordinates our activities, ensuring that as we grow, we do not lose our way. This review is a matter of urgent public interest to promote security, welfarism, and good governance, while fostering the unity that binds every student from Oye, Ikole, Ido and generally, both full-time, and part-time institute.

From the symbols of our identity, our Flag, Slogan, and Anthem to the mechanics of our Three Arms of Government and the sanctity of our elections, this Constitution touches every facet of student life. It is the ‘General Umbrella’ from which all other campus associations take their source.

As Chairman of this 9th Assembly Committee, I view this document as a Social Contract. It is a binding agreement between the governed and the government. My mission, alongside my 13-man committee, is to ensure this contract is modern, transparent, and reflects the FUOYE we want to see today and five years from now.

We are not just editing words; we are reinforcing our foundation. Let us build a legacy of law that stands tall.

Signed:
